Agnes M. Brazal is a full-time faculty member at the Maryhill School of Theology.  She is the current President of DAKATEO (Damdaming Katoliko sa Teolohiya sa Pilipinas-Catholic Theological Society of the Philippines), past coordinator and consultant of the Ecclesia of Women in Asia, and member of the Planning Committee for the Catholic Theological Ethics in a World Church (2007-10). She is also the Theology and Religious Studies series editor of the Ateneo de Manila University Press and an Editorial Board member of the Asian Christian Review. She obtained her licentiate and doctorate from the Katholiek Universiteit Leuven.

Her main research interests are postcolonial-intercultural methods, migration, feminist and Filipino-Asian theologies/ethics.   She has published essays in local and international journals and anthologies (published by Peeters, Continuum, Orbis), co-edited a number of books published by the Ateneo de Manila University Press and authored a  textbook series for grade school children.  

Her grants/awards include being winner of the 2003 MWI (Institute of Missiology, Missio, Aachen) international academic essay contest on Contextual Theology and Philosophy on the theme “Religious Identity and Migration”. She was also a recipient of a visiting fellowship grant at the Katholiek Universiteit Leuven (KUL) in 2006 and the book Body and Sexuality was a finalist in the 2007 National Book Award granted by the Manila Critics Circle and the National Book Development Board.

“Recasting Liberation Theology’s Classic Methodological Mediations: A Proposed Way of Integrating Contextual-Cultural [Feminist] Values and Perspectives,” a doctoral dissertation defended at the Faculty of Theology, Catholic University of Leuven, 1998.

“John Paul II on Labour and Culture: A Critical Assessment in the Light of Hegel and Marx”, an unpublished thesis submitted to the Faculty of Theology, Catholic University of Leuven, in partial fulfillment of the requirement for Licentiate in Sacred Theology, 1994.
