Fragile World: Ecology and Church

The Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology (CWCIT) of De Paul University of Chicago celebrated this year’s World Catholicism Week with the theme “Fragile World: Ecology and Church” in anticipation of Pope Francis’ most-awaited encyclical. The conference was held on April 8-12, 2015 at De Paul’s University Lincoln Park Campus. This event brought famous speakers from different continents – some of whom were Celia Deane-Drummond, author of Ecotheology (University of Notre Dame, USA); Michael S. Northcott, author of A Political Theology of Climate Change (University of Edinburgh School of Divinity); Christopher Hamlin, Coauthor of The Greening of America, Catholic Style, 1930-1950 (University of Notre Dame); Michael A. Perry, OFM, Minister General of the Franciscan Order (Rome).

Five of our SVST professors were also invited to deliver papers in this important conference as part of the continuing conversation between Adamson University and De Paul University. The following representatives of SVST and their topics are:  Rolando Tuazon (“Becoming Stewards of Creation: Ecological Virtue Ethics”); Agnes M. Brazal (“Religious & Cultural Beliefs Related to Disaster Risk Reduction: The Case of the Super Typhoon Haiyan”); Randy Odchigue (“Nurturing Communities, Sustaining Fragile Ecologies”); “Reynaldo D. Raluto (“An Eschatological Perspective on Our Hope for a Sustainable World”); and Daniel Franklin Pilario (“Ecology and the Apocalypse”). We thank our professors for their contribution to this international conversation.

The papers and the proceedings will be published soon but the video of the lectures are already available online.

For videos of the presentation you may visit the World Catholicism Week page "Click Here" or click on the topics here:
