Summer in Cotabato City
SVST goes to Mindanao on summer. For ten years now, the professors of SVST go to Cotabato City and share their theological and pastoral expertise to the Masters’ students in the Notre Dame Center for Catechesis (NDCFC). In collaboration with the Order of Notre Dame (OND Sisters), SVST offers three courses during the whole summer. This year, Ruben Mendoza taught Theology of Mission; Rex Fortes lectured on the Synoptic Gospels; and Daniel Franklin Pilario handled a course on Theology and Cultures. Our students in Cotabato are lay people or religious sisters who work mainly as religious education teachers in small hinterland schools in predominantly Muslim areas, grassroots community practitioners and pastoral workers in far-flung parishes.
Our first batch of graduates in 2012 had a small reunion this summer and happily shared about their experiences of theologizing on the rough grounds where they now find themselves. SVST is proud of the work that they and other graduates do – “doing theology from the margins”.
