Abstract

The ethics of integral human development, as it has evolvedin the social teaching tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, hasbeen a crucial dialogue partner of development theories and practicesduring the past four development decades. Its critique has not onlytriggered in the rich nations of the North serious efforts to rethinkthe ethics and praxis of development globally implemented thus far.But such rethinking has to meet the new concerns and developmentagenda of the poor peoples of the South, particularly in Asia. Catholicdevelopment ethics can continue to make a relevant contribution toglobal solidarity if it listens more attentively to these cross-culturalrevisions and critically appropriate their insights.
