RENEGOTIATING THE SACRED: Academic Conference 2021

1:30 PM

Ravaged by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Filipinos turn to the Sacred for help. But what constitutes “banal” for them? This lecture examines the local religious inflections and articulations as these constantly spell a difference in the lives of millions. It will be shown how the discourse of “loob” remains an essential compass in navigating the intricacies of Filipino consciousness vis-à-vis the push and pull of and on the sacred. Fr. Kenneth Centeno, CM delivered this talk in an online symposium on February 2021. Fr. Centeno, a new member of the SVST Faculty, just graduated with the Doctor in Philosophy Summa cum Laude from RWTH –University of Aachen, Germany in 2020. Fr. Rolando Tuazon, CM moderated the conference; it was attended by around 80 persons in Zoom, and was broadcasted on FB Live Streaming. It can be accessed on this link:

#VINCENTHELPS

Tandang Sora, Quezon City
8:00 am

Vincent helps started last January 2020 as the response of the Vincentian Family to the needs of the victims of with the eruption of Taal Volcano. Right after, it continued its services of food packs distribution during the Community Quarantine at the time of the pandemic. When typhoons Rolly and Ulysses came, Vincent Helps also responded to help those who are affected by them in Catanduanes and Cagayan. During the first months of the community quarantine, SVST became the repacking station of Vincent Helps. Seminarians, formators, professors, lay students and youth volunteers spent hours repacking and distributing goods and in cooking hot meals for street dwellers and stranded people. Vincent Helps launched programs such as Soup Kitchen, distribution of Hot Pandesal, Entengdahan, and relief operations for those who are hit by typhoons in the Philippines. For anyone who wanted to donate you may contact Fr. Geowen Porcincula, CM.
